Madera Wine Trail: Member Wineries
About Westbrook Wine Farm
Tammy and I just now returned from judging at the 34th annual Orange County Fair Wine Competition (for the 25th time) and can tell you that there were some fabulous wines entered this year.
This is the one competition which does not charge wineries to enter. Adding to its credibility, it is judged by winemakers and winery owners only and is not a consensus judging.
I had the privilege of judging this event from its beginning in 1977. Only California wines are allowed and this year there were nearly 3,000 of them. Unfortunately, we judges are asked to taste only a couple hundred wines each during this two day event held at the Hilton Costa Mesa. It was swell to see the old and make new friends.
May we suggest that you keep an eye on the Orange County Wine Society’s web site www.ocws.org for the award results. This is the one that means something.
Who knows, maybe a local Madera County winery will walk away with the Gold?
If not, well, there’s always the 35th annual competition to which we can all look forward
